Jake was born and raised in Northern Minnesota, a place where the cold winters and short summers produce a special kind of adventure seeker. Like many Minnesotans, he spent his early life exploring the boundary waters, testing the limits of Minnesota winters with snowsports, and learning the topography of his hometown from the seat of a bicycle. After graduating college, Jake moved to the high country of Yosemite National Park in the Eastern Sierra Mountains. Summers were spent roaming the backcountry and saving money for his winter travels around the world.
A love for photography developed when Jake began bike touring and wanted to capture the human element in his adventures. Since 2014, he has been bringing his camera around the world with him. Through photographing bike tours from Europe to Alaska, finding fresh powder in the Sierra, and climbing some of the most aesthetic lines in the west, Jake has the unique ability of capturing the human essence behind an adventure. In his portfolio you can see the range of human emotions that encompasses the hardships and triumphs of life in the mountains.
In the past, Jakes has published articles in the LA Times, Visit Mammoth, The Field Mag and GearJunkie. Some of his photos can be found in the Cochise Stronghold Climbing guidebook and the Yosemite Valley guidebook. Jake has done several video and photo campaigns for companies including Town of Mammoth Lakes, Visit Mammoth, Icebreaker, Gossamer Gear, the Grove House, Brew Doctor Kombucha, Outback Trading Co., Hana, and Ombraz. Recently, Jake worked on a project in conjunction with a bike tour to fundraise for conservation efforts. He created a print collection from his Redwood bike tour to raise money to plant trees for One Tree Planted. Jake’s photos will also be published in a book about bike touring and photography. Check back for updates on where he can be found with he camera, a pair of skiis, a backpack, or his bike.
